Brilliant child:)

Law school to the world of television, if only more lawyers followed that career path because Drew has worked on so many shows I have enjoyed. As for Bob well respect for a 13 year old who kicked off with King and Clarke, destined to be a writer me thinks.

From past listening I knew we would be getting a good conversation but I didn't expect Eddie to be so open and forthcoming. His willingness to talk really made this an enjoyable way to spend an hour.

I'll admit I was taken with Peter in the premiere ep of W13 but I soon warmed up to the character and as intended the banter between Peter and Myka makes a world of difference.

I used to watch Titus when it was shown in the UK, short lived or more likely we only got 1 season before it vanished into the void. No sign of a Region 2 DVD release and my usual R1 sources are not a little too expensive for a show I would buy based on a vague memory of finding it funny:)
It seems to be a running theme that any career in TV is destined to be a roller-coaster ride and regardless of where you begin where you end up or currently are is a path full of wonder and heart ache.

Determination, a little luck, people that care plus a healthy dose of talent seem to sum Jennifer up very well.
I've seen Harpers but never got round to watching the web based content which it seems was my loss but at least now I have a new name to look out for:)

There are times when regardless of your age you want to sit back and let yourself get lost in the experiences of someone who lived and worked through a golden age or lets say Interesting Times when almost anything was possible.
A great interview and that was only part of Del's story.

I remember Mercy Point although only in passing as it was just one of the shows on the Scifi channel in the UK. I do rate Trey's one and only Supernatural writing credit, Hell House was a cracking episode and a quick google mentions an interest with the Quantum Leap property which alas (or perhaps not) never came to fruition.

A fascinating interview and it's always puzzled me why I like the US style of television over anyother including the UK which while similar in many ways just a totally different feel to it.
I've just ordered one of Lee's Monk novels being a fan of the show but I have to admit I never took to Diagnosis Murder although it's mid-afternoon filler timeslot perhaps colours my perception.

Why did I start listening just before 1am? Had to finish it and I have a long day ahead. That was the best interview I've ever heard. Thank you, David, for putting this interview together. And thank you, Saul, for your warm voice, heart, humor, and ability to talk someone's ear off with very little prodding. :)

Good luck with the new show, David. I programmed my dvr to record the series and I am rooting for you. I enjoyed the creative content at the warehouse 13 website.
Unfortunately neither your website or my tv listings at verizon indicate whether the show was produced in HD format. So I am saving hard disk space by recording in SD. I hope this is a mistake on my part and you got the production budget you two deserve.

Great interview, I think she almost came to tears at one point. Great job guys definitely will listen to more shows. I am going to try and get my girls to listen to this show because it shows them that you can go to college, learn a profession and then go in a completely different direction. My girls both seem so concerned about being pigeon holed into a specific career, with no escape. I keep preaching keep an open mind figure out what you want to do for now, and not for the rest of your life.

One other thing, Jennifer Yale has so many projects in the air and working, she must have a huge mortgage payment.

Thanks again for a great 54:13.

I've been a fan of Ross Martin for many years and it's a pure delight to hear him express himself at such length. I feel so fortunate that you kept that tape all these years and were willing to share it. Did you ever watch Death Ship with him?

A tip of the hat to Joe for his work on Saving Grace, currently my favourite crime drama although putting it solely in that genre is doing it a disservice.
The shock of youngsters not realising The Thing was a remake reminds me of so many songs from the 1980's which I was told by my parents were from their youth. Given enough time everything is new and fresh I guess.

I have high hopes of Warehouse 13:)
Perhaps one of the still good things about the US Scifi channel is that while they can knee cap existing shows they are still trying to produce genre content.

I started listening to ep18 expecting something light with Saul an actor whose work is appreciated by me but we got quite an in depth discussion and it was very revealing, highly appreciated.

Never really considered that music video production could be so far ahead of movie production let alone TV, new found respect for those who started and were successful in the field.
Gonna get myself a retail copy of Battlefield and already looking forward to Humanity's End and kudos to Owen Arnold, the music on the trailers is fantastic.

I posted this comment on iTunes, but wanted to do so here as well.

As an aspiring screenwriter on the outside of “the business,” I was warned of numerous adversaries on the winding road to Hollywood success. Materialistic agents will see you as property, not a person. Manipulative studio executives will take control of your work. Callous professionals will try to abuse you, and combative peers will see you as competition. Such preconceived notions can poison a career before it begins. However, this incredible interview with CHILDREN OF MEN and IRON MAN co-writer, Mark Fergus is the best antidote to that poison.

Mark is amazingly grounded for someone in the ever-shifting world of entertainment. He humbly and eloquently attributes his meteoric rise to A-list Hollywood screenwriter to letting go, and writing what you know. Sounds simple, but such concepts oppose those preconceived poisonous notions that scream “never give anyone control of your work,” and “write what sells!” Mark takes the enlightened position that giving up control of your work improves it in unimaginable ways. After spending years attempting to write for the fickle Hollywood marketplace, he instead began to work on projects he actually cared about.

Mark’s approach works, as evidenced by the fact that he’s now working on a film project with Industry giants Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard! This interview offers hope of succeeding in Hollywood on your own terms, and encourages you to press toward your personal screenwriting best. It’s life-changing, and a must hear!

This and the Iron Man podcasts were really great, informative listens (and an interesting contrast of content). Thanks for the great work.

A suggestion: Would you be adverse to moving the ad at the beginning to the end of the podcast? One of the nice aspects of the podcast is its anecdotal character and something about the plug at the head diminishes that for me.

Marc,

Glad you enjoyed it. We honestly love putting them together. We're learning things as well. Or at least being reminded of the stuff we've forgotten along the way. ;-) Keep listening.

Best,
David S.

I really enjoyed this interview. Hearing a success story like this is so motivating, particularly so because it doesn't gloss over the difficulties of getting started. I am beginning to believe that I am learning the mind-set of the people at the top of the film production pyramid through these podcasts. Thank you for that.
